Hello my name is

Oh hi there! It’s been a while since I’ve shown my face so I thought I’d pop in to say a quick hello. I’ve had a few new people join recently, welcome, it’s great to have you here. Let me share a bit about who I am & what I’m all about.

My name is Siobhan, & I have a PhD in Child Developmental Psychology. This means that I have spent countless hours talking with professors, my nose in textbooks & journal articles learning the intricacies of how children’s brains & minds work.

I’ve worked as a researcher, lecturer & supervisor. Studying how & why children respond in the ways they do, teaching undergraduates & helping to train the next generation of scientists. Whilst I love science & the academic pursuit of finding answers to important questions, I’ve always struggled with how often research is disconnected from the people it’s designed to help.

After having my own little one, I became aware about how little of the information given to parents is evidence-based. I decided to do something about it & started ‘Science Minded’. I want to help bridge the gap between parents’ desire for factual, well-researched information & the research that’s out there.

I fact-check all my posts, reading widely & thoroughly on each topic. Knowledge is power & when we have access to information that is clear, concise & makes sense to us, we can feel more confident in our choices. I am fascinated by children’s cognitive, social & emotional development & even MORE excited by sharing this knowledge with you, their parents.

On the more human side of this equation, here’s a bit about me:

👩‍❤️‍👨The love of my life is a glorious redheaded man of few words & dry sense of humour.

🎂Our son was born on my late grandfather’s birthday & shares his name.

I’m a terrible cook but a good baker, I’m a fiend for a cheese board & my favourite colour is green.

I’d love to hear more about you - what’s a fun fact about you, your little one or even your favourite colour?
